RETHINKING MIGRATIONS THROUGH CULTURAL DIALOGUE
Migration beyond theories...
WHO WE ARE?
We are a research and an advocacy group dedicated to working with migrants and refugees who have undertaken or currently taking the perilous Sahara Desert route to escape poverty, injustice, and violence. We are dedicated to all people irrespective of age, religion, race, gender, nationality, language or ethnicity.
OUR VISION
We hope through cultural dialogue to stimulate new conversations on migration that will shape policies that are humane, creative and mutually transformative for migrants and citizens.
WHAT WE WANT TO ACHIEVE
-
Create a safe social space for migrant voices
-
Initiate a free forum for honesty, truth and dialogue between migrants and responsible state agencies without fear of recrimination
-
Through divergent voices, stories and experiences showcase the “dangers of a single story” in migration policies
-
Engage with the African Diaspora, African states and European agencies for creative solutions to predatory migration practices and narratives.
-
Critique and challenge the epistemic injustice often reproduced through binary approaches to migration studies and policies
-
Provide public education and awareness on cultural motives for migration beyond official discourse.
-
Transcend a top-down model of migration policies
-
Give authentic voice of representation to migrants beyond scripted official narratives
-
Mobilize support for rescue and relocation of migrants sold into sexual slavery or forced labor in Libya and the straights of the Sahara
-
Collaborate with governmental and international agencies on related issues for actionable policy change
-
Foster conversations with UN agencies and academics for an expanded definition of the meaning of refugee beyond current legalistic frames
